Cryotherapy in Friendswood, TX.
Not just a gym. A daily retreat.
Three minutes that the body reads as a signal. Whole-body cold and pinpoint localized cold — both delivered on. Cryo Innovations equipment, programmed weekly into a coherent recovery program by our recovery team.

XR CRYO ISO — localized targeted-cold device by Cryo Innovations. Pinpoint CO₂ cold therapy for face, joints, and acute recovery zones, 30-second targeted sprays. Just arrived — now operational.

XR CRYO KIOSK two-person CO₂-powered electric chamber by Cryo Innovations — the world's first fully autonomous self-regulating electric cryotherapy chamber. No liquid nitrogen. -180°F effective with wind chill, 3-minute sessions. Now operational.
Both XR Cryo ISO + XR Cryo Kiosk now operational at WEF Friendswood. By appointment.

The program
How whole-body cryotherapy works.
Whole-body cryotherapy at Wellness Elite Fitness runs on the Cryo Innovations XR Cryo Kiosk — a CO₂-powered electric chamber that holds the surrounding air at therapeutic sub-zero temperatures (-180°F effective with wind chill). No liquid nitrogen. The session itself runs 2 to 3 minutes. Unlike an ice bath, the cold is dry, controlled, and delivered to the skin rather than the core — which is what makes the body's response sharp and brief rather than slow and depleting.
The signal we are after is hormetic: a short, intense stressor that triggers a measurable autonomic response, a release of norepinephrine, and downstream adaptations associated in the research literature with recovery, mood, and inflammatory regulation. The cadence matters. Done daily, the body stops reading it as signal. Done two to three times a week, programmed against training load, it compounds.
What 3 minutes does
Why rarity is the practice.
The acute response to whole-body cryotherapy is one of the largest sympathetic spikes the body produces under controlled conditions. Members typically describe a clear cognitive lift in the hour after, slept-better nights, and reduced post-training soreness when the session is timed within the first few hours after a heavy strength block. None of this is promised. It is what we observe when the cadence is honest and the screening is real.
Cryo vs cold plunge
Two different tools.
Cryotherapy and cold plunge are not interchangeable. The chamber delivers a brief, dry, intense stressor to the skin; the plunge delivers a slower, wetter, deeper stressor that moves the core. We use both. Members on a typical week receive a programmed mix - cryo for the acute signal, plunge for the adaptive load - sequenced against training and recovery so each is doing the work it does best.
Now operational
The Cryo Innovations XR ISO — localized targeted cold.
WEF has just received the Cryo Innovations XR ISO — the localized targeted-cold device that runs alongside the whole-body chamber. The XR ISO is a different tool than the chamber: pinpoint CO₂ delivery to specific zones of the body that warrant focused cold without the systemic load of a whole-body session. Sessions are short — 30 seconds of targeted spray, sometimes layered in two or three passes — and the device head is operated by trained staff against the specific anatomy presented at intake.
Where it fits in the practice:
- Face and neck — localized cold for skin tone, post-exercise vascular response, and acute inflammation signaling.
- Joint zones — knees, shoulders, elbows, wrists, ankles. Targeted cold over a specific joint without committing the whole body to the stress, which matters for members training around an acute soreness or carrying a chronic single-joint pattern.
- Acute recovery zones — the specific muscle group worked hardest in the last 24 to 48 hours. The XR ISO delivers a shorter, sharper, more localized signal than the chamber for these targets.
- Pre-event preparation — localized cold to a specific zone the day of competition without the whole-body sympathetic spike that a chamber session produces.
The XR ISO runs on CO₂ rather than nitrogen, the device is handheld and operator-directed rather than chamber-enclosed, and a typical localized session adds 5 to 10 minutes to a visit. Members on the recovery cycle book it alongside the chamber, the manual therapy bench, and the rest of the suite as a programmed component rather than a one-off.
"The first session you come out wired. By the eighth, you start sleeping like you did at twenty-five and your knees stop talking to you on training days. I did not believe it either."A WEF member
Common questions
Frequently asked.
How cold is the cryo chamber?
The Cryo Innovations XR Cryo Kiosk runs at approximately -180°F effective with wind chill, using CO₂ on a fully autonomous electric refrigeration platform — no liquid nitrogen. Hands and ears are protected; the body is briefly bathed in dry cold for 2 to 3 minutes.
How often should I do cryotherapy?
2 to 3 times per week is the cadence we program for most members. Daily sessions blunt the hormetic signal; weekly sessions are too rare to compound.
Is whole-body cryotherapy safe?
Generally well-tolerated with proper screening. Cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, pregnancy, Raynaud's, and cold urticaria warrant a conversation with a physician first.
Cryotherapy vs ice bath - which is better?
Both, sequenced. Cryo for the acute hormetic signal; plunge for the adaptive load. The two stressors are different on purpose.
Does HSA or FSA cover cryotherapy?
WEF accepts HSA/FSA cards as a payment method. Whether a specific service qualifies depends on your plan and documentation; most general wellness services do not qualify without a physician's Letter of Medical Necessity. Confirm with your plan administrator before booking.
What is the Cryo Innovations XR ISO at Wellness Elite Fitness?
The Cryo Innovations XR ISO is a localized targeted-cold device that has just gone operational at WEF Friendswood. Unlike a whole-body cryotherapy chamber, the XR ISO uses CO₂ to deliver pinpoint cold to specific anatomy — face, neck, individual joints, or an acute recovery zone — in short 30-second targeted passes. The device is operator-directed by trained WEF staff and runs alongside the whole-body chamber, the manual therapy bench, and the rest of the recovery suite.
What's the difference between whole-body cryotherapy and the XR ISO localized device?
Whole-body cryotherapy delivers a systemic cold-exposure signal in a chamber — the entire body experiences the stressor across two to three minutes. The XR ISO is localized: trained staff direct CO₂ cold to a specific zone (a joint, the face, an acute muscle group) for 30 seconds at a time. Members on the recovery cycle often book both — the chamber for the systemic hormetic input, the XR ISO for targeted joint or zone-specific work in the same visit.
How long does a cryotherapy session take?
The whole-body session itself runs two to three minutes in the chamber. With changing and a brief warm-up afterward, plan on about fifteen minutes at the club. Many members pair cryo with the XR ISO localized device or the sauna in the same recovery visit.
What should I expect during my first cryotherapy session?
Staff walk you through it before you step in. You wear dry undergarments, socks, and gloves while hands and ears are protected, then spend two to three minutes in dry cold. It feels brisk rather than wet, and most members leave alert and warm within minutes.
How soon will I notice results from cryotherapy?
Many members feel an immediate lift in alertness and less soreness in the hours after a session. The recovery and sleep benefits people seek tend to compound over several weeks of consistent use, which is why we program cryo two to three times per week.
Can you do cryotherapy if you have high blood pressure?
Published contraindication lists commonly include uncontrolled or severe high blood pressure among the conditions to clear with a doctor before whole-body cryotherapy, since cold causes a sharp circulatory response. We share this as general education, not advice for your situation. Wellness Elite Fitness does not evaluate medical appropriateness for individual conditions, so check with your physician first.
