The practice

How a float session works.

A float session at Wellness Elite is 60 to 90 minutes inside a sensory-deprivation pod filled with 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt dissolved into shallow body-temperature water. The salt density renders gravity functionally null. The water and air match skin temperature. The lights and audio are off. What is left is the slow, quiet rebalancing of a nervous system that has been on input all week.

Members typically schedule one float a week and describe the session as the place they make their best decisions. The literature associates floatation REST with reductions in self-reported anxiety and improvements in sleep onset; we use it as a programmed weekly slot rather than a one-off curiosity.

What it is for

When the practice compounds.

Anxiety reduction, sleep onset, decision-rest, and post-training recovery are the four use cases the float tank is best at, in our experience. We do not recommend it as a substitute for the rest of the recovery suite. We recommend it as a complement - the parasympathetic counter-balance to the sympathetic stressors elsewhere in the week.

Who it is not for

Honest contraindications.

Open wounds, recent ear surgery, severe claustrophobia, and pregnancy after the first trimester warrant a conversation before booking. We screen new floaters and walk through the pod with a coach before the first session.

"I started floating once a week and stopped having to schedule "thinking time" because the float is the thinking time."

Common questions

Frequently asked.

What does a first float feel like?

Most members spend the first ten minutes adjusting and the next 60 to 80 minutes doing nothing. There is no soundtrack, no guided meditation. Just water, salt, and a slow nervous-system reset.

How often should I float?

Once a week is the cadence we program for most members. Some go to twice during high-stress weeks; once is the steady state.

Will I get cold or dizzy?

The water is matched to skin temperature, so you stop noticing the boundary. Dizziness is uncommon when entering and exiting slowly. Lights and music can be turned on if needed.

Is float therapy HSA/FSA eligible?

Plan-dependent. Most floats are paid out-of-pocket; some plans reimburse with physician documentation, which we provide on request.
